Death of Marie Trintignant: the new confidences of her mother, Nadine, on the last hours of the actress

Eighteen years after the death of her daughter Marie, Nadine Trintignant confides like never before in the hours leading up to the tragedy in a poignant documentary, “Marie Trintignant, your broken dreams”, available on the Arte platform.

His career, like his life, was cut short in a terrible way. On the night of July 26 to 27, 2003 in their hotel room in Lithuania where she is shooting the TV movie Colette, a free woman, Marie Trintignant receives several blows from her companion Bertrand Cantat, with whom she has been living in a tumultuous relationship for several months. “About twenty traces of blows are apparent” will be listed, while the actress, died on 1 August following the consequences of cerebral edema, caused by the blows. A tragedy, raised as a symbol in the fight against feminicides, which Nadine Trintignant had, so to speak, not seen coming.

If she occasionally pours out about the death of her daughter Marie, Nadine Trintignant has decided to indulge herself like never before in a documentary, Marie Trintignant, your broken dreams, available on the Arte platform. A “love letter” from the director who for eighteen years has not touched a camera, while her eldest daughter died during the filming of the TV movie she was making. However, even though she saw her every day, she says she “didn’t understand anything” to what her daughter was going through in private. I had noticed that she was getting sadder and sadder. She changed under the influence of this man, she admits, specifying moreover that in view of her character, of the kind “to get up and go”, it was inconceivable that there is a serious problem.

Nadine Trintignant “didn’t think Marie could be beaten”

Even an SMS that Marie Trintignant sent two weeks before the tragedy to her mother Nadine did not alert the latter, who specifies that their “reports were often humorous”. In this message, she quoted a verse from Baudelaire: ‘Be wise oh my pain and keep quiet‘”, before signing your battered daughter. I didn’t think for a second that Marie could be beaten. What kept her from leaving was that she was respectful towards the directors, and even more towards me”, concedes the ex-wife of Jean-Louis Trintignant, who also specifies that if she did not know hatred until then, “a destructive feeling”, this is no longer the case for eighteen years, assuming that she “will always experience it”.
