Michel Bouquet died on Wednesday April 13, 2022, at the age of 96. Behind him, this great French actor left the world of culture in terrible mourning. Monument of the French theater and known for having played no less than 800 times “The king is dying” by Eugène Ionesco, he had won two Césars for his roles on screen. The unforgettable interpreter of “L’avare” by Molière has had an exceptional career. Born in Paris on November 6, 1925, it was his press service that announced this terrible news, via a press release that could not be more ordinary: “Michel Bouquet died at the end of the morning in a Parisian hospital”.
While a national tribute will be paid to him at the Invalides this Wednesday, April 27this highly symbolic event was decided “in accordance with the wishes of his family”. Emmanuel Macron, who will still be in office whether or not he is re-elected on April 24, has announced that he will preside over the ceremony. Juliette Carré, his wife, to whom he gave the reply on many occasions, will obviously be present. But his 88-year-old widow was not the only woman in his life.
After the divorce petition, Ariane Borg went on a hunger strike
Because before marrying her in 1970, Michel Bouquet had already been married. His first wife was also an actress: Ariane Borg. The newspaper Liberation, which looked at the portrait of the latter, described her as a personality “very worldly and very volcanic”. For proof: his extremely complicated break with Michel Bouquet, with whom the divorce had lasted… 13 years. In the spring of 1967, when the actor told her he wanted to leave her, Ariane Borg went on a hunger strike that lasted several months. She had then lost 25 kilos and had come close to death.
