On the main square of Romans-sur-Isère, in the Drôme, a few meters from the Monnaie district, the police are numerous, but the residents are not reassured. This Saturday, 80 young people, mainly from the ultra-right, demonstrated to demand justice for Thomas, 16, murdered during a village festival in Crépol, a town located a few kilometers away.
Violence then broke out and residents now fear a crescendo of hostilities. “I’m really starting to be afraid for my children. I don’t want my children to be attacked for free,” reacts a woman on Europe 1’s microphone. “We are still very careful with everything that happens. is happening. It’s unimaginable,” adds another Romanian.
“We need to wake up”
This Saturday evening, these members of the ultra-right attempted to enter this neighborhood where the nine young people indicted, suspected of being involved in Thomas’ death, come from. A mobilization understood by some residents. “We were convinced that it would explode at some point and that it would degenerate like that. And I think that it is likely to continue even more. When I have children, do I want to live in a world of insecurity? So yes, I’m angry. Not to break everything, but we have to wake up”, proclaims this man.
On the sidelines of this parade, a 20-year-old ultra-right activist was also beaten and his car set on fire.
