IThey beat Tire Nichols for three minutes, like a “human piñata”, according to his family lawyers. Beaten up, he called his mother, who was preparing the chicken she was to serve him that evening at home, less than 100 meters away. The officers then sat him on the ground, leaned against the car, and straightened him when he slumped. Tire Nichols died three days later in hospital from hemorrhage, kidney failure and cerebral edema.

On January 7, the 29-year-old FedEx employee and father of a 4-year-old child was driving home from a park where he had photographed the sunset.
