Connected universes have been on the rise in recent years, especially since the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many therefore like to theorize on the fact that several projects created by the same team are connected, which is sometimes the case. Some had imagined it and it has just been confirmed: death looprecently ported to Xbox Series X|S, is well set in the same universe as the Dishonored.
Dinga Bakaba, director ofArkane Lyonindeed confirmed in the last issue of Xbox Podcast that the 2 franchises of the French studio are connected and Deathloop theoretically happened after the adventure stand-alone Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. The connection is not always obvious and is often made via easter eggs that connect the worlds. Some were also unveiled during the update golden loopwhich for example revealed the presence of a reference to the Dunwall Tower on the Legacy Pistol. But yes, Arkane has normally tied everything up so that licensing can technically happen in the same world.
Not everyone saw the same thing. Not everyone heard the same song you might have heard hidden somewhere. Not everyone has seen all the pieces, et cetera, et cetera. So, it was nice to see the community take a look at the little hints we’ve sprinkled everywhere that, yes, indeed, we had envisioned Deathloop happening in the future after Death of the Outsider.
While we were doing Deathloop, we said, hey, [cette histoire] could be one of the things that could happen next. So we have a certain timeline to tie this together and there’s a lot of clues, actually, in the game. There’s some big ones, one of them is really spoiler-y, so there you go , but there are a lot of little things and things that were under people’s noses all the time, but people are just figuring it out.
We tried to see it all as an evolution, but every time they mentioned the past, we were either pretty vague or were disguising, I would say, the names naturally. Like, they’re talking about Homeland, not Tyvia, but you sure can… once you know, you can sort it all out. And, yes, it makes sense. So, it was good for us to imagine one of the futures of the world of Dishonored and make it make sense.
