The four colleagues of the shooter were taken to the premises of the Paris judicial police, seized of the investigation for “attempted homicide on persons holding public authority”. According to the police intervention report, shortly before midnight on Sunday, a patrol of five police officers moved towards a car parked in the wrong direction with its hazard warning lights on on the Quai des Orfèvres, on the Ile de la Cité. , in order to control it.

Police plead self-defense

As the officers approached towards the front of the car, it started and “drove towards one of the officers who swerved to avoid it”, according to the report. “The only” policeman armed with an assault rifle then opened fire on the car which was heading towards Pont-Neuf where the vehicle ended its race after having climbed onto a platform. According to the first elements of the investigation, a dozen cartridges were fired, including “five or six impacts having reached the individuals”.

The driver, found inert at the wheel, and his front passenger, found lying on the ground to the right of the car, died on the spot despite the care provided by the emergency services. Their identities have not yet been confirmed. A third man aged 42, installed in the right rear seat, was injured in the right arm and transferred to hospital without his life being in danger. He is unknown to the police. According to the police account, a taxi driver, who says he witnessed the whole scene, “confirmed the self-defense mentioned by the officials”.
