The Constitutional Council makes its decision on the pension reform this Friday at the end of the day. Except surprise, there will be no censorship on the text nor major changes on the main points of the bill. In reality, the government is not very worried.

At the call of the inter-union, the French opposed to the pension reform again marched in the streets everywhere in France this Thursday as part of a 12th day of interprofessional mobilization. According to the latest figures, the mobilization gathered 380,000 people in France according to the Ministry of the Interior and 1 million according to the CGT. What will the future of the reform be made of? The Constitutional Council is due to make its decision on Friday. Total or partial censorship? The executive does not seem so worried.

The Constitutional Council should reconsider the secondary measures

The Sages should return only to the secondary measures which are called social riders. Articles that have no connection with the question of pensions, such as the senior index or the senior CDI that the government intends to pass differently. “In any case, the measures rejected, those which are expensive, we will reintegrate them into future texts such as the Labor law on full employment carried by Olivier Dussopt”, explained a minister to Europe 1.

The unions hope that the RIP will be validated

This is not the first time that a government has pulled off this sleight of hand. But in the current context, the method could offend more than one, starting with the unions and the opposition, still very upset against the pension reform.

The unions have not yet responded favorably to Emmanuel Macron’s invitation, following the decision of the Constitutional Council. They have one hope: the validation of the shared initiative referendum (RIP) to try to block the bill.
