EVG considers all-day strike on Tuesday

The members of the railway union EVG are currently voting in a ballot on indefinite work stoppages. But warning strikes are also possible in the survey, which will continue for a few weeks. It should be next Tuesday.

At the railway union EVG there are indications of a day-long warning strike. According to union circles, rail traffic is to be paralyzed for 24 hours on Tuesday. The EVG explained that all options in the collective bargaining dispute with Deutsche Bahn are currently being examined. The decision on this should be made on Thursday. “There is a board meeting tomorrow where strike targets will be re-determined.”

In the collective bargaining dispute with Deutsche Bahn, the union is letting its members decide on unlimited strikes in a ballot by the end of July. She had announced that warning strikes were possible during this time.

A week ago, the Central Tariff Commission of the EVG declared the negotiations with Deutsche Bahn to have failed. The sticking point in the talks was the term and the wage increase offered, it said. The railway had criticized the termination of collective bargaining. “The EVG throws away an almost finished agreement and sets everything to zero shortly before the goal. An agreement was within reach, 140 pages of collective agreement text are already ready,” said DB HR Director Martin Seiler.

The union negotiates for around 230,000 employees at around 50 rail and bus companies, including around 180,000 at Deutsche Bahn. In the meantime, the EVG has targeted wage agreements with several private competitors of the state-owned company. The EVG had originally demanded twelve percent more wages, but at least 650 euros more per month – for a period of twelve months.
