The deputy for Essonne and president of Debout la France, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, was the guest of La Grande interview Europe 1-CNews this Friday. At the microphone of Romain Desarbres, the MP is particularly annoyed that Emmanuel Macron did not mention the housing crisis during his big press conference last Tuesday. The latter would also be a drop in the birth rate according to him.
“Not a word about the housing crisis. Not a word about the hell that millions of French people have for housing.” Nicolas Dupont-Aignan does not hide his dissatisfaction with the fact that the head of state did not mention the housing crisis during his major press conference last Tuesday. “Macron and his government have systematically destroyed all housing policy support since 2017,” he adds. And this crisis could be one of the causes of the drop in birth rates for the MP for Essonne and president of Debout la France.
Several factors explaining the decline in the birth rate
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan is clear: according to him, the government has “wrung out” French family policy. “It was an exception in Europe and which partly explained the maintenance of a renewal birth rate,” he adds. But the housing crisis remains, for the MP, one of the main reasons for the drop in births in France. “It’s chaos,” he says.
He explains that the halving of housing construction and the bankruptcy of developers cannot lead to the construction of new homes. “Which means that the French who can no longer access property are moving towards rental properties. You have hundreds of requests for housing, so it should not be surprising that the birth rate plummets when young French people have difficulties purchasing power, less aid and no housing”, he tells Europe 1.
The president of Debout la France points out that the “ecological delirium” is another factor in the drop in birth rates and affirms that the activists “scare young parents”. “So it’s not just a problem of aid, it’s a problem of vision of the future. So an unfair policy, no housing and a kind of general trauma about the future. We must not s “surprise that there are fewer children”, explains Nicolas Dupont-Aignan.
