Deconfinement: the date of May 3, 2021 confirmed (with caution) by Gabriel Attal

In his speech on March 31, 2021, Emmanuel Macron decreed a new effective national confinement for a minimum period of four weeks, from April 3. While sixteen departments had already been subject to these strict measures for nearly two weeks, the entire French territory was this time concerned. Travel ban, return of the derogatory certificate, and closure of schools… The least we can say is that these new restrictions have not really made the population happy. Two weeks later, Thursday April 15, the President of the Republic gathered his government during a meeting at the Elysee Palace to develop protocols for reopening establishments closed because of the health crisis. The next day, Gabriel Attal went to the morning set of France Info to make a point.

No perspective was given ” for the end of the curfew

At this point, there is no new schedule planned ”, assured the spokesperson of the government. Although France has passed the 100,000 dead mark from Covid-19, Emmanuel Macron does not (yet) intend to postpone the date of deconfinement. Gabriel Attal has therefore confirmed, cautiously however, that the travel restrictions will indeed end on May 3, 2021.. These could therefore be extended, “in principle ”, although the government does not want it. Moreover, the spokesperson assures that there is “positive signals ” and “the beginning of stabilization ” at national scale : “As soon as we can relax, we will. But we must remain cautious, the virus continues to circulate actively in our country. ”

What about the curfew? For now, no “perspective has not been given ” by the executive on this subject, as Gabriel Attal reminded us. It is therefore possible that the curfew will continue after May 3, but nothing has yet been decided. The reopening of non-essential shops, terraces of bars and restaurants as well as cultural places is still scheduled for mid-May, although no specific date has yet been put forward. Regarding schools, the deadlines promised by the Head of State are “obviously maintained ”. Primary and nursery schools as well as nurseries should reopen their doors on April 26, while middle and high schools will wait until May 3.
