During the Advent season we like to clean up our apartments and houses. The right decoration for Christmas supports the anticipation and creates a festive mood. It doesn’t matter whether you want to bathe your home in a sea of lights, decorate the Christmas tree with baubles and figures, or emphasize the Christian character with a wooden crib – we’ve looked around at the possibilities. Here are our favorite tips for Christmas cosiness.
Decoration for Christmas: We see the light
The right lighting is particularly important during the Christmas season. The days are getting shorter and it gets dark early. Candlelight and fairy lights that bathe the rooms in soft light ensure a cozy atmosphere. Your own taste decides whether it is the “usual” candle and tealight holder are that decorate the living room all year round or Christmas motifs come to the fore. The selection is huge and fortunately the following applies to candles and lights: a lot helps a lot. In other words, you can never have enough of this type of lighting.
By the way, this also applies to your outdoor area. No matter if balcony or garden – with beautiful lanterns or fairy lightswhich are specially designed for outdoors, you can provide atmospheric light for you and your neighbourhood.
Tip: Timers are great, especially for outdoor lighting. Then you save yourself the trip into the cold to switch the lights on and off.
Santas, reindeer, snowmen & Co.
What many people should not miss when it comes to Christmas decorations are numerous figures made of wood, porcelain, clay and the like. In groups or individually, countless Christmas or snowmen such as Angel Chests of drawers, shelves, tables and window sills. However, the range is now so large that it is almost impossible to grasp it. Because there is probably just about every imaginable favorite animal in the Christmas variant.
Penguins or polar bears with Santa hats, cats and dogs anyway – there is something for every taste and animal lover. And why not? After all, Christmas is for everyone, right?
Give baby Jesus a roof over his head
On the other hand, if you like it a little more “classic”, i.e. if you want to emphasize the Christian background, then you could set up a nativity scene. These are available in a variety of designs, such as wood, and in very different sizes – depending on how much space you have for them.
The situation is often quite similar with a traditional one pyramid. The multi-storey handicrafts like to take up Christian motifs and not only inspire children with their turns in the candlelight. You can’t go wrong, especially with a pyramid from the Ore Mountains. Because handicrafts are at home here.

Fir branches – how that smells
Arrangements, door wreaths and other floral elements perfectly complement the decoration for Christmas. Again, your preferences play a role in the design. If you want a magnificent, lush decoration, then you can work with lots of gold and glitter in the form of balls and chains. If you prefer to underline the natural character of the decoration, you can do this wonderfully with other products from nature, such as cinnamon sticks, anise stars or straw stars or straw figures. The choice is yours. A great side effect: Real fir branches and co. spread a wonderful, subtle scent throughout the room.
Tip: Can’t find the right arrangement? Then you can also become active yourself. This requires some skill, but equipped with the desired decorative elements and – if it’s a wreath – a blank and a hot glue gun, you can make your own personal decoration for Christmas.
The star of Christmas decorations: the Christmas tree
When does the Christmas tree become the crucial part of the Christmas decorations? This question is often hotly debated. While some don’t put up the tree until December 24th, others want to have something from the Christmas tree for as long as possible. Whenever you set it up, it becomes the main protagonist and should receive the attention it deserves.
Complete sets of tree decorations are ideal because you can be sure that all the elements will fit together. Supplemented with beautiful lights – whether real candles or fairy lights – and possibly a pretty decorative chain, the whole thing creates a harmonious picture in the end.
Of course, you can also find your own baubles and figures for the tree decorations. This gives you maximum freedom of design and you can choose the number of decorative elements at your own discretion and the size of the tree. Maybe you start with just a few balls and make it a small tradition to buy a special ball every year?
Tip: If you value sustainability, then consider getting a slightly smaller tree in a pot instead of a large fir tree. This can be decorated just as nicely and will ideally stay with you for many years.
Window pictures provide “snow” – even on warmer days
Something – wrongly, as we think – have gone out of fashion window pictures. With them you can easily adapt your window panes to the great Christmas decorations that may be on the windowsill. Lettering, snowflakes distributed over a large area or Christmas tree balls are available in a wide variety of designs from snow-white to brightly colored. Since they can be removed from the windows without leaving any residue, you can use them again and again for Christmas decorations in the years to come.
A festive table spreads an appetite for Christmas
If you want to continue your Christmas decorations on the dining or coffee table, you have plenty of options. Starting with beautiful cookie plates, decorative cookie jars, tablecloths and serviettes, you can also score points with matching Christmas crockery.
On the table you can really let off steam and drive the Christmas joy to the climax. That’s right, we think. After all, Christmas only comes once a year.
