White gold …
“One of my favorite table lamps comes from the porcelain manufacturer Royal Copenhagen. I bought it at an auction in Copenhagen about ten years ago. I still remember exactly that nobody wanted this lamp. That’s why I ‘shot’ them relatively cheaply. It honestly looked very sad, because it didn’t have an umbrella, but the design, this romantic realism, the organic shape and the colors immediately fascinated me. The landscape is so finely and delicately painted on the porcelain – simply magical. I then took the good piece to the umbrella maker Sabine Bruns at Fasanenstrasse 72 in Berlin, ‘Der Lampenschirm’ is the name of her shop. The lady was just as enthusiastic as I was and then built an umbrella especially for me that fits the foot, made of linen and Japanese paper. That was very complicated because the frame has an unusual suspension on the top. But she did a great job. The color and the size of the shade harmonize perfectly with the rest – really beautiful. The lamp gives a great, very pleasant light and I always like to look at it. In the meantime it has found a special place in our house on Sylt. “
Guido’s favorite lamp is a real rarity made of hand-painted porcelain and brass, which is no longer produced today. Originally, it probably wore the pleated paper shade typical of traditional Danish lights, which sat like a pleated skirt over the light bulb. We think: The new one made from linen and Japanese paper looks great on her!
