Deepwater: BP did not authorize the production to shoot the film on one of its oil platforms
For the record, the production of Deepwater was in negotiations with the oil company BP, which operated Deepwater Horizon, but the company did not allow the team to shoot on any of its platforms. This is why the producers of this feature film decided to build one themselves for the needs of the film. Reconstituted at 85%, this “fake” platform required the work of 85 welders, who built it in three distinct parts. The main set weighed 1,315 tons and a helipad was also designed to land a helicopter. Finally, this feature film was not a great successgiven that it collected $119 million in revenue during its theatrical run, for an estimated production budget of 110 million euros.
