(Reuters) – France and Germany have concluded an agreement allowing the defense holding company KNDS, which notably builds tanks, to set up in Ukraine to train workers and produce spare parts and ammunition, a announced Friday the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu.

“We are announcing that KNDS (…), a Franco-German company, will establish itself in Ukraine with a subsidiary,” said the minister during a meeting with his German counterpart in Berlin.

“Which obviously has enormous value since production capacities are getting closer to the front line, it means less logistics and reliability in the capacity to supply the Ukrainian armed forces,” explained Sébastien Lecornu.

KNDS is the holding company formed since 2015 by the French Nexter and the German Krauss Maffei Wegmann (KMW). It notably produces battle tanks, armored vehicles and artillery systems.
