When the cold has set in during the night, it is not uncommon for car windshields to be completely frosted over the next morning. Many, in a hurry, will then pour hot water on their window. But is it really a good idea?
Whereas outside temperatures have dropped again in recent days, some regions have been affected by episodes of snow or of frosted. In the morning, when wanting to drive to their place of work, many French people regularly come face to face with a completely frosted windshield (and, very often, little time to remedy it). The solution available to them? Go in a hurry to fill a basin or a saucepan withHot water before throwing it on their windshield. Convenient, yes, but not necessarily a good idea. You will understand, if you do not want to spend your morning at the garage to change your cracked windshield, we advise you to avoid hot water. Same thing for the heating in the car. But what are the alternatives ? The best is to anticipate. You can actually park your vehicle in a covered place or totally closed, in order to keep it warm during the night. If this is impossible for you, at least try to cover your windshield, not with cardboard or newspaper, which are rather ineffective, but with a special windscreen cover. What’s more, it will prevent the wipers from sticking to the windshield the next morning.

Natural ways to defrost your windshield
Then, in addition to the good old method of scrape your window with a plastic scraper (we only recommend it if you have at least twenty minutes to kill in the morning before leaving), there are natural techniques to quickly thaw the windshield. The first is to mix 50% water and 50% white vinegar then spray the solution on your car window. A grandmother’s trick that will melt the frost in no time. Be careful, however, not to aim at the seals, which this mixture may damage.
You can also mix water with a little alcohol at 90 degrees and a few drops of dishwashing liquid, before pouring the liquid on your windshield. The expected result should again be quick. Finally, it is always possible to rub your windshield with an onion or a potato, but also with a sock filled with coarse salt moistened with warm water or with a bag of rice spent thirty seconds in the microwave.
