Trump incites against investigating US prosecutor

Trump caused a stir with the announcement of his impending arrest. So far nothing has happened. Instead, the ex-president shoots at the investigating prosecutor.
Former US President Donald Trump hated prosecutor Alvin Bragg on his Truth Social platform. In a tirade he indirectly referred to the Manhattan District Attorney as a “degenerate psychopath” who hates the United States. Trump previously shared a collage of images on his platform showing him holding a baseball bat on one side and Bragg with his hands raised on the other. Prosecutors are investigating Trump’s hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.
In his most recent tirade, Trump also threatened “death and ruin” if charges were brought against him. He previously claimed that he “received more votes than any sitting president in history” and was the Republican frontrunner.
On Saturday, the ex-president wrote on his online platform Truth Social that he should be arrested on Tuesday. At that point, there were growing signs that the 76-year-old Republican would be charged in the hush money affair. However, no charges have yet been brought against Trump, nor has he been arrested.
Decision next week at the earliest
According to media reports, a decision should not be made until next week at the earliest. The responsible grand jury, a lay body responsible for indictments, therefore did not want to deal with the Trump case on Thursday, but rather next Monday at the earliest.
The investigation against Trump involves a hush money payment of $ 130,000 (around 120,000 euros) to the porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known under the name Stormy Daniels. The payment before the 2016 presidential election was apparently intended to prevent the porn star, who claims to have had a sex affair with Trump in 2006, from going public, which could have harmed the presidential candidate.
The question is whether the payment was booked illegally and to what extent it violated campaign finance laws. Trump has denied both an affair with Stormy Daniels and any wrongdoing in connection with the hush money payment. The right-wing populist, who wants to retake the White House in 2024, repeatedly describes the investigations and other allegations as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.
