Deltarune: Toby Fox announces a change of plan for the next chapters and gives development news

After the critical success ofUndertale, Tony Fox launched on PC and Mac exactly five years ago on October 31, 2018 a new project called Deltarunean anagram of his previous game. Its concept was quickly explained by the creator, who then declared that it took three years to release it, but it was only in February 2019 that its variation in chapters came to fruition. announcement of a port on Switch and PS4. THE Chapter 2 then only saw the light of day in September 2021 first on computers then on consoles. Everything was free then and the plan was to release the next three chapters together in a paid format, without specifying the price, but given the work already done, fans had nothing to complain about. Two years later, still nothing on the horizon, so it was time to Tony Fox gives us news and there is change !

It is through a newsletter for Halloween that he therefore made a big update on the development of Deltaruneto start with the advancement of Chapter 3 :

Chapter 3 is almost complete! There will essentially be no changes to dialogues or gameplay from now on. Hooray!

On my birthday, a friend came to my house and played the entire game.

It was very rewarding to see him laugh at all the stupid jokes we’ve been working on for years. It took a long time to get here, but now it feels like everything is going to decline.

After finishing it, I asked “did anything seem incomplete” and he mentioned that “the balls seemed pretty hard…”

I nodded and immediately forgot about that comment.

Obviously, releasing a game requires many more steps than just finishing the gameplay and graphics. But people are already getting back to work on Chapter 4. Everyone is very excited to work on the next part!

When we started Chapter 3, to be honest, it took a lot of trial and error to figure out how this would work. But, With Chapter 4, I’m already very confident about how we can progress.

If he originally intended to release the Chapters 3, 4 And 5, this is no longer relevant. Instead of that, only the Chapters 3 And 4 will go out together, then the fifth later. Anyway, if you’ve played the first two, you know that a total of seven chapters are planned, so the adventure is very far from over.

So, now that Chapter 3 is almost complete… I think it’s a good time to re-discuss how we’re going to release Deltarune for purchase.

My original plan was to publish Chapters 3, 4 and 5 together. However, the finish line for Chapter 5 is still pretty far away…and I don’t think anyone really wants to wait that long to release anything. Me in particular.

So, new strategy: don’t wait any longer for Chapter 5. Instead of that, We will focus on getting Deltarune on sale once we finish Chapter 4. This should make everything a little more reasonable!

Chapter 4 already has a very significant amount of cutscenes and enemy work done. Additionally, I have hired a new producer whose entire job will be to accelerate the overall development of the game for future chapters. I am therefore very optimistic about the next steps of this project.

That being said, I think I’ll hold off on more detailed development updates for now. Instead, I’ll just let you know if development is about to be completed or if anything funny happens.

If you are not yet familiar with the world of Tony Foxdo not hesitate to obtain Undertalewhich is sold €9.99 on GOG.com.
