The federal councils decided this year, among other things, to increase the retirement age for women by one year to 65 years. For the Swiss Confederation of Trade Unions (SGB) and the umbrella organization Travail.Suisse, politics is ignoring the pension situation of a majority of the Swiss population and, above all, that of women.
These two organizations have called for a national rally. Some parties and women’s strike collectives also joined.
The rally began on the Schützenmatte in Bern, where the demonstrators gathered. Many carried the flags of the trade unions and the associations represented in the umbrella organization Travail.Suisse.
The program includes a march through the old town to Bundesplatz. There will be moderated discussions on the pension situation. Women from various sectors affected by the reform appear and explain why they think the reform is bad.
The SGB and Travail.Suisse are expecting several thousand participants. The Bernese canton police have warned of major traffic restrictions, especially in the city center. (SDA)
