Parliament must now decide on the payment to the United States of the pension of the prince, who will not receive a salary for his position.

family dispute

Joachim, 53, is currently a defense attaché at the Danish embassy in Paris, a move that was not of his will, his wife, French-born Princess Marie, had hinted in 2020.

He and his family have been at the center of a rare family row within the popular Danish royal family in recent months. Prince Joachim, younger brother of Crown Prince Frederik, had publicly expressed his bitterness after his mother’s decision last September to withdraw the princely titles from his four children. The sovereign, who apologized, did not reconsider this decision.
