Denmark’s Prime Minister Frederiksen forced to hold new elections

Denmark will elect a new parliament on November 1st. Prime Minister Frederiksen announced this on Wednesday – not entirely voluntarily. If she hadn’t taken the step herself, she would have been overthrown. Nevertheless, the social democrat is confident that she will remain at the helm.

Under pressure from the opposition, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has to announce early parliamentary elections on Wednesday.

“Of course it seems strange to call elections in the middle of a security, energy and economic crisis,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said when she spoke to the media on Wednesday announced that a new parliament will be elected on November 1st would. In doing so, she made it clear that it had not been her idea to re-appoint the Folketing six months before the end of the regular legislative period.
