Traffic will be difficult throughout the territory on Saturday July 9 for the start of the school holidays, according to Bison Futé, which provides in particular for major slowdowns in the Rhône Valley and towards the Atlantic coast.

In the direction of departures, the day of Saturday is classified nationally red and black – signifying a circulation “extremely difficult” – in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The peak of slowdowns is expected on the A7 motorway: the Lyon-Orange axis will be heavily congested between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

“In Île-de-France, traffic will be very dense towards the toll gates of the A6 and A10 motorways from the very beginning of the morning”, provides Bison smart, who strongly recommends avoiding the Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines toll between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. and the Orléans-Tours axis between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. The A13 motorway may also experience traffic difficulties from mid-morning. These could last until mid-afternoon.

Forecasts that are verified from noon. As lunchtime strikes, the French motorways are already encumbered with 520 kilometers of traffic jams, concentrated on the A7 in the direction of the south where there were around 11 am nearly 100 kilometers of disturbances at the exit of Lyon. The travel time on the Autoroute du Soleil between the south of Lyon and Orange was 3h20 instead of 1h35, as indicated by its operator Vinci Autoroutes on Twitter, an axis which will be heavily congested until 7 p.m. At the same time, the traffic was “dense and disturbed» on the A10 from Saint-Arnoult (Yvelines) towards Bordeaux where it took 01:45 more to reach the Gironde capital

Friday, a day already classified as red in Île-de-France and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a peak of 785 km of traffic jams was recorded at 5:25 p.m.

lull sunday

The situation will be calmer on the entire road network on Sunday but difficulties will persist on the A7 in the Rhône valley in the North-South direction, according to Bison Futé. In total, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion expects 12 red days and one black day over the summer period.

For the return from the Ascension Bridge, at the end of May, a day classified as black at the national level, a peak of 934 km of traffic jams had been reached.
