On the Parc des Aiguilles rehabilitation site, in Ensuès-La-Redonne, just outside Marseille, the teams from Séché Éco-services demonstrate all their expertise in depollution. To direct each type of waste to the appropriate processing channel and to allow the reuse of the impacted land, a real sorting center must be set up on site.
Led by the BARJANE real estate group, the Parc des Aiguilles project aims to develop and develop the new sustainable logistics platform for the metropolitan area of Aix-Marseille-Provence. The 60ha site, which for several years hosted impactful and highly nuisance activities, represented:
15,000m3 surface waste identified, including 1/3 asbestos waste
42,000m3 buried waste
5000m3 concentrated pollution with hydrocarbons, mercury and PCBs (persistent organic pollutants).
So much waste to be carefully sorted on site and directed to the appropriate treatment channels.
A REAL ON-SITE SORTING CENTER
In June 2021 Séché éco-services (SES), a subsidiary of Séché Environnement specializing in environmental services, began work on the depollution of the area. The operations start with the implementation of an intervention plan adapted to the type of waste and pollution identified on the wasteland of the Parc des Aiguilles.
For surface waste, the SES teams first carry out a macro-sorting. The different types of waste (tyres, wood, asbestosgreen waste, deconstruction waste, etc. thus separated are then stored in an allotment area that has been sealed beforehand in order to prevent any transfer of pollution to the surrounding land.
A more precise screening will then make it possible to refine the sorting so as to optimize the recoverable fraction and to organize the elimination of waste towards the recovery and processing centers adapted from the Group.

In areas with a higher concentration of pollutants, SES was able to isolate hydrocarbon pellets following soil screening operations. After packaging, they will be transported to the heat treatment centers of Séché Environnement. As for land, it is a matter of reducing their pollutant concentration thresholds in order to be able to value backfill on the site. They will be sorted and put in piles, in ” biotertre to undergo biological treatment. A process that greatly reduces the site’s carbon footprint.
Completed on time, the construction site of depollution now gives way to development work on this site labeled “Turnkey industrial site”.
