The American Institute for War Studies (ISW) warns in his most recent situation report before the consequences of an alleged NATO-Ukraine pact. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing unnamed sources, that British, German and French government officials were working on an agreement. It is intended to guarantee Ukraine’s supply of modern military equipment, weapons and ammunition, but at the same time does not include the main advantages of membership in the alliance. Ukraine was deprived of the protections of Article V of NATO, according to which an attack on one state of the alliance constitutes an attack on all members and thus triggers the alliance case. An obligation to station NATO troops in Ukraine is also not planned.
The aim of the pact, the Wall Street Journal further reports, is to enable the Ukrainians to carry out a successful counter-offensive against the Russian invaders, with which the ruler Vladimir Putin is forced to the negotiating table and permanently prevents the neighbor from future attacks.
