Apple is reportedly developing an iPhone 17 Slim for 2025. This new proposal in the range would focus on a brand new design. Thinner, with a reduced Dynamic Island and a remote photo block, it would be even more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
If the iPhone 16 series should not have any big surprises in store for us at the start of the next school year, Apple is preparing a shake-up in its strategy for the iPhone 17s in 2024. If we are to believe the renowned media The Information, a brand new premium model would be in the pipeline. It would be an iPhone 17 Slim, which would mark the biggest design evolution of Apple’s smartphone since the iPhone X and its famous notch.
Why Slim? Because this mobile would be “significantly thinner” than other iPhones. This may bring to mind what Apple is offering with the iPad Air and the MacBook Air, even if the lines at this level become blurred with the iPad Pro M4 which ends up thinner than the iPad Air. The report does not specify what consequences this design will have on battery capacity. We know that the iPhone 16 Pro Max must include a battery with higher energy density cells. Apple may be banking on this technology so that autonomy does not suffer too much on this device.
Thinner, more compact than the Plus and Max, with a new photo block
The chassis of this iPhone 17 Slim would be made of aluminum, not titanium. It would adopt an intermediate size between the standard and Pro models, probably between 6.5 and 6.6 inches. On the back, the very recognizable photo block of the iPhone for several generations would be completely reworked. It would no longer be located at the top left, but at the top center of the smartphone. We can then either think of a horizontal arrangement of the sensors like on the Pixel, or of a circular photo block like Chinese brands like Oppo or Xiaomi do.
The size of the Dynamic Island would be reduced on this model, which would also incorporate a better front camera. Unsurprisingly, the source announces the presence of an A19 chip. Finally, a price higher than the 1,199 USD that an iPhone 15 Pro Max 256 GB costs in the United States is mentioned. It would therefore be the most expensive model in the series, unless the price of the Pro Max increases by then (knowing that the price of iPhones tends to remain stable across the Atlantic, unlike here) . As a reminder, the iPhone 15 Pro Max 256 GB is sold for 1,479 euros in France.
