Despite 70 minutes excess
HSV loses connection after a draw

The Hamburg sports club has been undefeated in the 2nd Bundesliga for seven games, but has only won two games. Even in the game against Fortuna Düsseldorf, only one point is enough. The gap to the top group continues to grow. HSV plays with one man for a long time.

Hamburger SV is gradually losing contact with the promotion places in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Tim Walter’s team only scored 1-1 (1-0) in Saturday evening’s game against Fortuna Düsseldorf despite being outnumbered by more than an hour. As sixth in the table, HSV is four points behind Jahn Regensburg and Schalke 04 in second and third place – the small city rivals FC St. Pauli at the top of the table are already seven points ahead.

Robert Glatzel (19th minute) put HSV in the lead with his sixth goal of the season, but substitute Robert Bozenik (71st) equalized. Düsseldorf’s Edgar Prib had seen the red card early for a gross foul on Tim Leibold (23rd / after video evidence).

Hamburg have been unbeaten for seven games, but only won two of them. Düsseldorf settles in the middle of the table.

Almost 40,000 fans in the Volksparkstadion

In front of 38,954 spectators in the Volksparkstadion, the home side began cautiously. Glatzel scored with the first chance to take the lead, at the latest after Prib’s exposure, the Hamburgers then clearly set the tone and pushed for the second goal.

After the break, however, Düsseldorf found their way back into the game and, led by the former Hamburg-based Khaled Narey, had a great opportunity to equalize after just under an hour, but his pass to Rouwen Hennings, who was ready to shoot, was intercepted in dire straits. Fortuna stayed tuned, Felix Klaus, who had just been substituted, served the Slovak Bozenik, who had just been substituted on.
