Despite criticism from medical representatives: Ministry confirms: booster vaccination possible for everyone

Despite criticism from doctors’ representatives
Ministry affirms: Booster vaccination possible for everyone

After the complaint from doctors’ representatives about the statements made by Minister Spahn about booster vaccinations, the Federal Ministry of Health has put it back and reiterates the message: Booster vaccinations are possible for anyone who wants to. Nevertheless, the focus is initially on certain population groups.

All citizens are generally entitled to a Corona booster vaccination. The Ministry of Health has pointed this out again on Twitter. It referred to the vaccination ordinance. For some groups of people, the booster vaccinations are particularly useful. The ministry referred to his page on the interneton which these groups of people are listed. These include, for example, people with an immune deficiency and people over the age of 60 – “after individual consideration and medical advice,” as it says there.

Medical representatives had previously criticized Spahn. “We are annoyed that Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn is stoking expectations that booster vaccinations are possible for everyone,” said the board member of the General Practitioner Association, Armin Beck, the editorial network Germany. “The general practitioners follow the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO), which currently recommends third vaccinations only for people over 70 and a few other groups.”

Due to Spahn’s statements, however, the need for clarification and discussion in the practices is increasing. If the Standing Vaccination Commission expanded its recommendation, the general practitioners would also vaccinate these groups of people, he announced. Medical President Klaus Reinhardt told the RND: “So far there is no sufficient scientific evidence for the need for booster vaccinations for people of all ages.”

Reinhardt accused the politicians of a lack of education and information policy. “It would now actually be the task of the Federal Center for Health Education to inform about the booster vaccination for the elderly and to clear up the false information in the social networks,” he said. “This fake news is largely responsible for the fact that we have a pandemic of the unvaccinated today.”

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach said via Twitter that we now need a clear campaign for booster vaccinations for all over 70-year-olds. “For them, the booster effect is vital from now on, as breakthrough infections can be fatal for them. Third vaccination is a must for them. Others later. You have to communicate that clearly.”
