Despite falling oil prices: petrol and diesel remain expensive

Despite falling oil prices
Petrol and diesel remain expensive

In Europe, the oil price has recently fallen significantly. Actually, according to ADAC, this should also be noticeable at the petrol pump. But drivers cannot hope for falling fuel prices. The industry association is looking for explanations for this.

Despite the significant drop in oil prices, gasoline and diesel remain expensive. Since last week they have changed only minimally, as the ADAC announced. Super E10 therefore cost 1.546 euros per liter on Tuesday on a nationwide daily average: 0.1 cents more than a week ago. Diesel fell by 0.1 cents to 1.387 euros. This means that fuel prices remain in the range of multi-year highs.

The oil price has recently fallen significantly. In Europe, it has been falling since a high in early July. This has accelerated since the middle of the month. Overall, it is now around 10 percent lower. The drivers were the expansion of production through the Opec + oil network and economic concerns.

The significant drop in the price of crude oil should actually have resulted in falling fuel prices, emphasized the ADAC. “Presumably, however, the increased tourist traffic and increased demand have meant that the lower oil price has not yet been passed on to motorists.” On Wednesday, oil prices rose again by noon. However, they only made up for a small fraction of the recent losses.
