UEFA ignorance fuels Lewandowski rumors

Robert Lewandowski is the most accurate player in the Bundesliga. But it is becoming less and less noticed internationally. In the election for the best player in Europe, the Pole is ignored despite his goal record. What does this mean for the future of Poland?

Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel can hope for the award of the continent’s best coach after his great year with Chelsea. The 47-year-old had strong competition in the election of the European Football Union UEFA: Together with Tuchel, the Italian European champion Roberto Mancini (56) and start coach Pep Guardiola (50) from the English champions Manchester City are among the top three Europe’s Footballer of the Year, on the other hand, will take place next Thursday in Istanbul without German or Bundesliga participation.

After FC Bayern cleared away last year with goalscorer Robert Lewandowski and then coach Hansi Flick, this year either European champion Jorginho, French N’Golo Kanté, both of whom play for Tuchel in London, or Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) excellent. World footballer Lewandowski made it to fifth place in the selection of coaches and journalists with 140 points as the best Bundesliga professional, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland in tenth place with 15 points.

Lewandowski has achieved everything in the Bundesliga

Despite his 41 Bundesliga goals, Lewandowski is left out. It is further proof of the dwindling interest in the Bundesliga and the dominance of the Champions League. The Pole has been toying with a move to another league for a long time, also in order to sharpen his profile again in his last career years. Lewandowski has achieved almost everything in the Bundesliga. Last season he moved up to second place on the all-time goalscorer list. But after his goal at the beginning of the current season, he is still 87 goals short of the historic 365 goals record of the recently deceased Gerd Müller.

Most recently, the captain of the Polish national team was linked with a move to the Premier League. According to media reports, the Bayern striker should also be dissatisfied due to the ongoing rumors about Erling Haaland. Bayern Munich is said to have declared him “not for sale”. Nevertheless, there are rumors that the German international Timo Werner, who has not yet arrived in England, could move from Chelsea to the Isar in exchange for Lewandowski.

The other candidates

Jennifer Hermoso (Spain), Lieke Martens (Netherlands) and Alexia Putellas (Spain) received the most votes for women soccer players. The trio play together at FC Barcelona, which won the women’s premier class in May. German national players or soccer players from the Bundesliga did not make it into the top ten.

Either Lluís Cortés, who left FC Barcelona in the summer, the Swedish national coach Peter Gerhardsson or Emma Hayes (Chelsea) will be recognized as the best coach of a women’s team. Bayern coach Jens Scheuer finished fifth.

The awards for the best players in the Champions League in the respective parts of the team will also be announced in Istanbul next week. National players Antonio Rüdiger, Haaland and Lewandowski are shortlisted for the men.
