Disney is sticking to “Death on the Nile”

In early 2021, rape allegations came up against actor Armie Hammer. However, Disney is sticking to the theatrical release of “Death on the Nile”.
After alleged rape against US star Armie Hammer (35, “Call Me By Your Name”) earlier this year, the actor was dropped by most of his employers. However, the Disney film studio is apparently sticking to a major project with him. The theatrical release of the mystery film “Death on the Nile” in February 2022 remains.
On Tuesday (December 21), Disney released a new trailer and a poster of the film by director Kenneth Branagh (61). The crime thriller is due to hit German cinemas on February 10, 2022. In addition to Hammer and Branagh themselves, Gal Gadot (36), Letitia Wright (28), Annette Bening (63) and Russell Brand (46) can be seen in it.
“Death on the Nile” is the second Agatha Christie film adaptation by Briton Branagh. As in “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017), he himself plays the lead role of the private detective Hercule Poirot, who investigates the murder of the wealthy Linnet Ridgeway Doyle (Gadot) during a steamboat trip on the Nile. The cinema release had already been postponed from 2020 to the coming year due to the corona pandemic.
Several women had alleged Armie Hammer on social media earlier this year, including allegations that he had a cannibalistic fetish. In mid-March, a former partner accused him at a press conference of raping her for several hours in 2017. Hammer strongly rejects the allegations.
New shoot was impossible due to Corona
The allegations had according to “Hollywood Reporter” led Disney to consider several options. One of them: a complete re-shoot of the film with a different actor. Due to the corona pandemic, however, it was almost impossible for the top-class cast to come together again. And the use of digital technology, which could have replaced hammer, and a pure publication on a streaming service were probably out of the question for the mouse company.
