Why Kimmich can also play in 2G stadiums
The Joshua Kimmich case moves all of Germany. It is the big topic these days and most of the questions have not yet been finally clarified. One of them is: Why are unvaccinated players allowed to play in stadiums that are otherwise only for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered? The explanation is simple.
Just imagine: Union Berlin against Bayern Munich next Saturday. The game of the year in the Alte Försterei. Suddenly the Köpenicker switch from their previous 3G course for viewers to the 2G course recommended by the Berlin Senate. The “Iron” can fill their stadium and get rid of another particularly annoying opponent: Joshua Kimmich. As all of Germany has been discussing very excitedly since the publication of “Bild”, it is well known that it is not vaccinated. Is that possible? Well: The fact that Union Berlin will switch to 2G can at least not be completely ruled out. That Bayern will have to compete without their midfielder in this case can be ruled out.
The “Joshua Kimmich case” raises many questions. Some of them are not that easy to answer, but others are easy to explain. So also the question of why Joshua Kimmich is allowed to compete as a non-vaccinated player in stadiums in which the 2G rule applies to fans, in which even those who tested negative are denied access. The answer is simple: There is no professional ban for those who adhere to the hygiene concept of the German Football League (DFL), which is still in force and has been revised before the season.
While the fans’ visit to the stadium is classified as recreational fun by the responsible authorities and the respective corona protection regulations of the federal states apply, Kimmich’s involvement in the Bundesliga games falls within the area of occupational safety. The 2G rule does not apply in offices either. There is no compulsory vaccination in Germany.
Regular tests, preventive measures
The Bundesliga is still in a “special game mode” and on the DFL website viewable concept clubs are asked to regularly test their players. There it says: “All persons in the teams or among the referees without the GG status need further regular tests in this respect. These can be performed by players, coaches and / or supervisors in the form of double PCR tests per calendar week (at an interval of at least 48 and a maximum of 120 hours; of which a test no earlier than 48 hours before the expected end of the game) or antigen tests (external test, no self-tests) take place on all training, game and travel days. “
The respective clubs know the vaccination status of their players. They recommend the vaccination across the board, but in the end they cannot do more than make this recommendation. You are required to provide sufficient information.
In the DFL concept it says: “The clubs will continue to be advised to identify people in the team and team environment with risk factors for severe courses of Covid-19 diseases and without appropriate vaccination protection (not: to report them). Unless they are part of the training – and stay away from competitions (preferred solution), they should at least be given special attention in all preventive measures, especially with regard to vaccinations. “
