Schalke keeps up with promotion places

The bankruptcy against Düsseldorf costs FC Schalke 04 important points in the fight for promotion, after all, the Gelsenkircheners are now rehabilitating themselves with a win against Paderborn – which could have been higher. Dresden meanwhile has to slowly look down in fear.
SG Dynamo Dresden – 1. FC Heidenheim 1: 1 (0: 0)
The situation in the 2nd Bundesliga is becoming increasingly precarious for Dynamo Dresden. The traditional club only drew 1-1 (0-0) against 1. FC Heidenheim on matchday 23. After the sixth game in a row without a win, the relegation zone is threateningly close for the Saxons. The sixth in the table from Heidenheim, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to increase the pressure on the top teams in the promotion race.
Stefan Schimmer (55th) deservedly brought the guests from the Ostalb, where goalkeeper Tim Kleindienst was suspended, into the lead. Dynamo striker Christoph Daferner (59th penalty) equalized with his tenth goal of the season. The 10,000 fans in Dresden saw a weak second division game in the first 45 minutes. After the change of sides, it became a different game. Substitute Shimmer hit the far corner with a head to guide the guests. Dresden got back into the game with a debatable penalty kick, the black and yellow now threw themselves into every duel and gained control of the game.
FC Schalke 04 – SC Paderborn 2: 0 (1: 0)
Schalke 04 gave the right answer to the recent defeat in Düsseldorf and have come close to the promotion places. Coach Dimitrios Grammozis’ team defeated SC Paderborn 2-0 (1-0) and is currently only one point behind leaders FC St. Pauli.
Marius Bülter (22nd) and Darko Churlinov (74th) shot S04, who had disappointed in the 1: 2 at Fortuna Düsseldorf last weekend, to victory. In goal, Martin Fraisl shone with some outstanding saves against the SCP, who kept up well but have been waiting for a win for four games now.
After an uneventful first half, which featured Bülter’s header after a free kick as a highlight, things got intense after the break. Both teams created numerous chances, the best of which was missed by Schalke’s Churlinov (61′), who missed the goal from just a few yards out. All he had to do was push the ball in, hitting the post instead.
Shortly thereafter, Fraisl prevented the equalizer when he deflected a powerful shot from Dennis Srbeny (63rd) to the post. Churlinov did better: After a bad pass from Jasper van der Werff from Paderborn, Schalke switched quickly. Florian Flick served Churlinov, who nervously increased to 2-0.
