The manufacturer Huawei proudly presented its brand new smartphone, the Mate 60 Pro, a few days ago. However, now the Americans suspect the latter of having violated the embargo which has been in place for a long time.

But then, is Huawei really at fault, and what is the company actually at risk? Did she really break the law? The US government is investigating.

Huawei presents the Mate 60 Pro, a smartphone that should never have seen the light of day?

This is indeed the question that everyone has been asking since the Chinese manufacturer presented its new nugget. Named Mate 60 Pro, this new Android phone will appeal to a large number of users, that’s for sure. However, there is one problem, and not the least: the latter is equipped with the Kirin 9000S chip, manufactured by the company SMIC (Semiconductor International Manufacturing Corp).

According to the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on China (in the United States, of course), namely Mike Gallagher, this would be a violation of the restrictions put in place since 2019. According to his comments collected by Reuters“ [la puce] could not likely have been produced without U.S. technology and, therefore, SMIC may have violated the Commerce Department’s Foreign Direct Product Rule “.

Remember, it was in 2019 that the Huawei brand was embargoed following a decree from former President Donald Trump, with the main reason being its proximity to the Chinese government, and suspicions of espionage from other countries and certain companies. After that, the manufacturer no longer had the possibility of selling its equipment in the United States, and without too many surprises, Huawei’s turnover fell drastically everywhere in the world, except in China. Since then, the company has been trying to circumvent the embargo, which is not easy.

Mate 60 Pro soon to be banned?

Now is the time to end all US technology exports to Huawei and SMIC to make it clear that any company that flouts US law and undermines our national security will be cut off from our technology. -Mike Gallagher

If for the moment, Huawei has the green light for the marketing of its Mate 60 Pro, it could very well be that this is only temporary. Indeed, in the days to come, it would be very likely that the company will once again be banned from marketing its new smartphone, at least in the United States (for security reasons), but all hope is not not lost.

always according to Reuters, there would in fact be certain authorizations which could then have allowed Huawei to benefit from this famous Kirin 9000S chip, but for the moment, at the time of writing these lines, the American government is still investigating this new business. So while the Mate 60 Pro looks attractive, its future may be uncertain at the moment.
