In their latest blog post, Bungie, the developers of Destiny 2, alerted PS5 players to a rather amazing phenomenon. And indeed and according to the studio’s figures, a significant number of players on PS5 still play the PS4 version while a next-gen version has been available for free since 2020.

This November 3, 2022, Bungie, the fathers of the Halo and Destiny sagas, published a blog post intended to detail the new features to come to Destiny 2. The opportunity for the developers to come back to the arrival of season 19 in December, and to specify the various modifications made to the gameplay and in particular to the powers of certain guardians.

But rather amusingly, Bungie also took the opportunity to mention a surprising phenomenon. In effect, the studio claims that a significant number of PS5 players still play the PS4 version. “We’ve noticed a significant number of PS5 players playing the PS4 version of Destiny 2 on their next-gen console. For the best experience, be sure to check out this page here to upgrade to the PS5 version for improved framerate and graphics overall.” writes Bungie.

PS5 players are still getting the wrong version

Remember that an optimized version for the PS5 of Destiny 2 has been available free of charge for all owners of the PS4 version since the end of 2020. Only, if on Xbox, the transition to the next-gen version is easy thanks to the Smart Delivery System, the procedure is a little more complex on PS5. This is because players have to look for the PS5 version of a title to download and play it.

In December 2021, Sony however integrated a feature to avoid this kind of confusion. Indeed, a pop-up window now appears when you launch the PS4 version of a game and a PS5 version is available. But obviously, this warning is not enoughas evidenced by Bungie’s speech.

Otherwise, the blog post indicates that visual adjustments have been made to the game on Xbox One, Xbox One X, PS4 and PS4 Pro in order to “reduce their memory footprint with minimal quality degradation”. According to Bungie, these changes will allow teams to continue delivering new content on older-gen consoles.
