Last March, we learned with sadness of the death of actor Lance Reddick, who was for many players of destiny the iconic voice of Commander ZavalaTHE Titan at the head of theAvant-garde and Guardians of the Last City on Earth, at least in English. Past the time of mourninghe then asked himself the question of the very future of the character in the game. Yes, especially on the Anglophone side, some already saw Bungie manage to kill the character or at least oust him… without even thinking for a moment that this is not what happens in the opposite case where a voice actor leaves us, as was precisely the case for Saint-14 in French with the disappearance of Sylvain Lemarié in April. The question came back to the fore at the end of June when the Senior Narrative Designer Robert Brookes had tweeted that the last audio conversation of the CIMU for the Season of the Deep was the last recording he made with Lance Reddick. However, not everything is done in a linear fashion during the creation of a game, as it specified then, there may still be some dialogue to hear from the latter. Bungie finally gave an answer, which was obviously well received by the community.
So, it is the great Keith David who will take over and give voice to Zavala in English from the extension The Final Form and beyond. Yes, the fact of carrying out such a recast and this last clarification clearly suggest that Zavala will survive future events, regardless of his involvement, otherwise what is the point of giving this precision. Bungie specifies for all intents and purposes that existing replicas of Lance Reddick will remain untouched, still happy. If ever his name means nothing to you despite his long career on screen, just know that the studio has in the past already worked with him on Halowhere he embodied theArbitrate. Inevitably, such a choice could only delight the fans.
Here is what he said:
It’s an honor for me to continue the fantastic work that Lance started as Zavala. Lance captured the character’s integrity perfectly. Of course, I intend to continue this work.
In French, David Krüger should continue to double Zavala (there’s no reason to replace it), which is quite funny since it doubles John-117 In Halo (it was Philippe Catoire who lent his voice to theArbitrate).
