Detergent at Stiftung Warentest: Discounter beats branded products

Expensive brands are anything but necessary to get laundry clean – at least that’s what the detergent test by Stiftung Warentest shows. The test winner is not a well-known branded product, but comes from the shelves of a discounter.

This is the detergent test winner of the Stiftung Warentest Tandil Ultra Plus heavy duty detergentfrom Aldi North (Grade 1.8) (see at Aldi Nord). “Good” grades hail in almost all categories. The Aldi detergent is only “satisfactory” when it comes to being gentle on textiles. You don’t have to dig too deep into your wallet to get the test winner from Stiftung Warentest. The 2.025 kg bag of the test-winning detergent costs around 4.85 euros.

The judgment of the Stiftung Warentest on the Tandil heavy-duty detergent Ultra Plus in detail:

  • Washing performance: good (1.7)
  • Textile protection: satisfactory (2.9)
  • Declaration: good (1.6)
  • Environmental characteristics: good (1.7)

Note: The test by Stiftung Warentest was published for the November 2021 issue. The test included 24 heavy-duty detergents.
