Ex-star striker Torres suggests a comeback

After working in Spain, England, Italy and Japan, Fernando Torres will hang up his football boots in the summer of 2019. But the ex-world champion can apparently not really make friends with retirement. The 37-year-old suggests his return to the grass on Instagram.

A good 21 months after the end of his professional career, the former Spanish world and European champion Fernando Torres apparently wants to make a comeback. He will return, announced the 37-year-old soccer striker on Instagram. “I only understand life one way: gaming. That’s why I decided to go back,” said Torres.

Even if the message is not very clear, there is no doubt for the Spanish specialist media. “Torres is preparing to play football again,” wrote the Madrid newspaper “AS”. In the hashtag (“I’ll play again”), the man from Fuenlabrada near Madrid does indeed express himself a little more clearly. On Friday he will announce where he will celebrate his comeback.

Torres played his last professional game at the Japanese club Sagan Tosu in August 2019. “El Niño” (the child), as Torres was called by fans and the media, made his professional debut at Atlético Madrid in 2001 at the age of 17. From there he moved to Liverpool in 2007 and then played for Chelsea FC, AC Milan and again for Atlético before moving to Japan. Most recently, he had passed the time with training as a trainer and boxing training, among other things.

The striker became world champion in 2010 and also won the European championship title with the Spanish national team in 2008 and 2012. In the final of the Euro 2008 in Vienna he scored the 1-0 winner against Germany for Spain. In his career, Torres scored 255 goals and 73 assists in 715 games. He won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.
