Japan is apparently developing modern cruise missiles

A lot is happening militarily in Japan right now. Given the Chinese presence in the region, military spending is expected to increase significantly. According to a newspaper report, Japan is pushing ahead with the development of cruise missiles, among other things.

According to a media report, Japan wants to develop modern cruise missiles with interchangeable warheads as part of its massive military build-up. As the Japanese daily newspaper with the highest circulation “Yomiuri Shimbun” reported, citing government circles, three types of warheads are planned that are rarely found in this form: one for reconnaissance using high-performance cameras, one for jamming enemy radar systems using electromagnetic waves and one for Attack. Since they can be shot down one after another, it is said to increase the deterrent effect and increase attack accuracy.

Japan is currently undergoing a historic change of course in its security policy and intends to massively increase defense spending. For the first time, the country wants to acquire offensive weapons such as cruise missiles that can reach potential targets in China. The defense budget is to amount to two percent of the country’s economic output instead of the previous one percent.

The change of course comes amid what the Tokyo government describes as the “serious and most complicated” security environment since World War II. According to a recently adopted new security paper, China’s military presence in the region represents “the greatest strategic challenge” of all time. Japan’s protecting power, the USA, formulates it in a similar way.
