Prince George’s Godfather Hugh Grosvenor donates £12.5million to coronavirus charities

One of Prince George’s Godfathers has donated over £12million to the fight again coronavirus.

Hugh Grosvenor, who is the Duke of Westminster, has sent another £10million to the cause after initially donating £2.5million last month.

The 29 year old’s first £2.5million donation was given to charities which provide essential food distribution to vulnerable families as the country continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

His new generous offer will be split between different charities by the Westminster Foundation, with £5million going towards NHS Charities Together.

Hugh’s money will be put in the charity’s specially created “family fund” which offers support to NHS workers and their families.

Another £3million will go towards national medical research and development linked to coronavirus, while the additional £2million will be split between charities providing support for people on the frontline who will feel the long-term effects of the crisis both economically and socially.

He said in a statement of his new donation: “On behalf of my family and everyone at the Grosvenor Estate, I want to say a huge thank you to all our amazing NHS staff and everyone providing critical frontline services.

Hugh became the Duke of Westminster in August 2016 after the death of his father Gerald — who was a close friend to the Royal family.

He is the richest person in the world under the age of 30 and was named as one of six year old Prince George’s Godparents at his christening in October 2013.
