Deutsche Bahn sends luxury carriages onto the tracks: You can soon board this futuristic train

• At the InnoTrans transport fair in Berlin, Deutsche Bahn is currently presenting a luxurious local transport wagon.
• The roadworthy concept train has large lounge chairs, 5G internet and its own office compartments.
• The Idea TrainRegio will be on the road for the first time in 2023 on the route between Munich and Mühldorf am Inn.

At the InnoTrans mobility fair, Deutsche Bahn is presenting a number of life-size concepts for the future. And one of the futuristic train ideas will soon be on the track – at least on a test track in regional traffic.

For example, the “Südostbayernbahn” idea train, which can be walked on by the trade visitors at the Berlin trade fair, is already planned for its first use on the route between Munich and Mühldorf am Inn.

The model project should be on the track as early as 2023, but the idea train is intended as a vision for the whole of Germany. Whether this will ever become a reality is currently unclear. At least the passengers on the Bavarian test track can look forward to this special equipment:

A real office on the train

Thanks to lockable individual compartments in 1st class, it should be possible to work undisturbed on board the luxurious new regional train – there are even powerful 27-inch displays available as work screens.

This offer, garnished with 5G Internet and countless USB connection options for devices throughout the carriage, is intended to appeal particularly to commuters from rural areas with high travel volumes.

Relax like in a spaceship

But even those who do not want to spend their time working on board the converted double-decker class 786.6 should travel excellently on the Ideas Train. At least those who can get hold of one of the two rotating panorama chairs in the concept car. The futuristic seating cocoons not only offer plenty of space for comfortable daydreaming, but also a greater degree of privacy.

New sitting

But if you don’t get one of the space capsule seats, you don’t have to sit normally either: In the upper part of the car, in addition to the relaxation area, there is also a compartment for “New Seating”: Here, particularly ergonomic chairs are designed to adapt to the passengers’ bodies in a breathable manner.

There are 20 screens in the wagon for information purposes – some of them are integrated in the windows. However, it is doubtful that these will already be the futuristic transparent OLED displays from LG, which are also to be presented at InnoTrans in Deutsche Bahn train windows.
