Deutsche Post NFT: Strictly limited Germany crypto stamp is coming

Germany’s first official crypto stamp with the imprint “Germany” is coming. The stamp is a combination of a classic physical stamp and its digital image in the form of a so-called “Non Fungible Token” (NFT), a type of digital ownership document that is managed via blockchain technology. Both the real stamp and the access data for the “online stamp” are included in a booklet that can be pre-ordered from October 14, 2023. The circulation is 250,000 copies.

The crypto stamp with a postage value of 160 cents will be released on November 2nd, 2023 and shows the Brandenburg Gate as interpreted by an artificial intelligence: The representation of the building and its surroundings is greatly simplified and the many clear edges are reminiscent of the typical one Digital world pixel style. The crypto stamp also marks the start of a new series called “Historical Buildings”, which stamp lovers can collect both physically and digitally.

NFT booklet for EUR 9.90 (presale)

In recent years, collecting digital values has rapidly developed into a new subject area for those interested in philatelic and digital. Themes and motifs of postage stamps have always documented technical achievements, history and culture. It was therefore particularly important to Deutsche Post to expand the experience of physical stamp collecting with new digital components for one of the world’s largest philatelic communities, without losing the connection to traditional philately.

In recent years, crypto stamps have already been issued with great success by other postal companies in the world. The main difference with the German edition is that due to the individual number in the matrix code, both each physical stamp and the pictorial representation of the NFT are unique with this number. The retail price of the booklet is EUR 9.90.

In addition to the crypto stamp, the motif will also be available as a conventional, wet-adhesive stamp (without NFT) in a circulation of 800,000 pieces. The issuer of all “Germany stamps” is the Federal Ministry of Finance.
