The Quarryof which Supermassive Games is the license holder despite its alliance with 2K Games, looks like a successor to Until Dawn, the good surprise released at PlayStation in August 2015 with which it also shares the same director (Will Byles) , but also relies on the multiplayer features of the saga The Dark Pictures. For this production sold at a high price (count 75 euros on PS5 and Xbox Series), 2K Games and Supermassive Games have had fun by calling on a few known names and faces, including David Arquette (Scream), Ariel Winter (Modern Family), Justice Smith (Jurassic World), Brenda Song (Dollface), Lance Henriksen (Aliens) and Lin Shaye (A Nightmare on Elm Street).
The action takes place at dusk on the last day of summer vacation at Hackett’s Quarry camp, whose leaders have prepared a small farewell party. A party spoiled by the appearance of individuals covered in blood and an even more sinister thing which will make live a nightmare night with these nine young monitors who undoubtedly had better plans for the evening. The Quarry will allow the nine characters to be embodied in turn in a cinematographic narrative with choices and therefore multiple branches. And as it has since Until Dawn, the survival of this or that character will depend entirely on the actions and choices left in the hands of the player. Or players.
Because the horror can be savored alone in the dark in front of its big screen, but also between friends thanks to local or online multiplayer. “Place your trust in (up to) 7 of your friends in an online game (on the same generation of consoles), and allow invited players who follow you to vote in critical decisions to write your story together! Or, get together for a local co-op horror session and each take control of a monitor“, explains the press release. The standard edition of The Quarry will be available in box and for download on June 10, unlike the digital-only deluxe edition. This edition includes the full game, the Gore Festival option for Cinema Mode (which will cycle through the bloodiest, creepiest, and most morbid version of the tale), immediate access to the Return Before Death system (a second-to-none mechanic Luck which normally unlocks after beating the game), Old School Horror Filter 3 Pack (Indie Horror, 80s Horror, and Classic Horror) and Retro 80s Outfits (automatically added to the game no later than July 8 2022).
