Development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake reportedly on pause according to Bloomberg

Things wouldn’t go as well as hoped for. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Shreier. The title would thus be postponed indefinitely, the time to find a solution to development. The force does not seem with him.

Kotor will not be gold

According to the sources of the very well informed Jason Schreier, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic announced last September would not be at its best. We learn through this paper that the studio Aspyr Media reportedly fired head of game design Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor at the beginning of the month.

This decision would have come after the presentation of an in-house demo of the game which obviously did not please the representatives of Lucasfilm and Sony. A reaction that would have shocked the whole team who thought they were on the right track. As a result, development of the game would be put on hold for the time being to find other opportunities. Also according to Bloomberg sources, the production of this demo would have taken too much time and money, thus making the project non-viable in the long term.

The remake has been in development for over three years, and the game was originally slated for release in late 2022. From now on, the most realistic window would be around 2025. Last May, Embracer Group (which owns the Aspyr Media studio) announced the support of Saber Interactive. This news was reassuring given that Aspyr was hard to see on a project of this scale since the structure mainly has experience based on game ports.

As a result, Saber Interactive could therefore completely take over the reins of development. We hope for an official announcement soon. Until now EA was the only publisher to have the rights to develop Star Wars games, but for a first experience outside this sphere, it is unfortunately not very good. We hope that the projects of Ubisoft and Quantic Dream will be on the right track.
