Dewy Skin: We will no longer wear this beauty trend in 2020

Trends are super subjective, but there are always tendencies. There are trends that have been around for years – and we still love them. And there are trends that have an expiration date. We asked Carolin Hartwich, Expert for Trends & Consumer Insights at CATRICE Cosmetics, about exactly these trends.

I would say we are clearly seeing a turnaround on the Dewy trend. It all goes towards natural.

With Natural, Carolin Hartwich means that the skin still looks like skin – even though the product is on it. We are saying goodbye to the exaggerated, radiant skin à la Yoga Skin or Glass Skin. Instead, we rely on products that do not cover the skin too much, do not matt it too crass and do not let it glow too artificially. Does that mean that we can no longer use a highlighter? Not exactly, Carolin explains:

Highlighter is still there, but the dewy effect on the skin is no longer so. That was huge hype.

So we continue to use glowy products under the foundation, on the highest points on the face or eyes – but we no longer highlight chin, temples and the like. After all, we don't have to follow every trend. If we did that, we would have a lot to do in the morning …

So Dewy Skin flies out of the trend repertoire for 2020. But which trend actually remains?

What will never go away is just blush. It simply adapts to the new color trends. For this year we see Earth Tones very strongly – all shades that you would see in the desert. Blush is a product that will always be a hero product.

At first glance, earth tones are probably not what most of us would use. Certainly not with a light complexion. But here, too, you can of course approach the trend discreetly and slowly. Carolin Hartwich advises:

If you have a darker complexion and brown hair, then you can go in the yellowish tones. If you are a lighter guy with blond hair, then stick to the peach-colored, red-rusty tones.

And no, of course, yellow does not mean neon yellow. Here we are talking about colors that have a rather yellowish, golden undertone. For example, this can be a more brownish or terracotta-colored blush. And if you don't dare, just continue to use shades of pink and rosewood. You never go wrong with them anyway …
