Will ‘Dexter: New Blood’ get a second season after the shock finale? Contrary to expectations, a sequel is not so unlikely. Netzwelt reveals how things could continue.
- The last episode of the series revival “Dexter: New Blood” can now be seen on Sky in Germany.
- After the disappointing series finale from 2013, “New Blood” should now calm things down.
- The new ending splits the fan community again and makes another sequel impossible – right?
The end of 2013’s “Dexter” was round but not particularly satisfying, because fans didn’t want to see the popular serial killer as a sad lumberjack. The sequel “Dexter: New Blood” is now set 10 years after the events of the original series and should make up for the old mistakes. This time the decision was made for a much more drastic ending, but is “Dexter” finally over?

Dexter: New Blood Season 2 release date?
It has not yet been confirmed if there will be a sequel in any form. The fact is that “Dexter” was “extremely successful” for the Showtime channel, as series creator Clyde Phillips reports to the online magazine TVLine. Despite the end of season 1, a season 2 is definitely within the realm of possibility.
“Dexter: New Blood” Season 2: Storyline
“Dexter is dead,” Clyde Phillips said in an interview with online magazine Deadline. The former serial killer was shot dead by his own son, Harrison, when they both realized he could only truly live free without Dexter. Harrison has been ever since on the run, destination and future uncertain. And this is where the direct sequel could start. What’s next for Harrison, what does Dexter’s death unleash in him?
So there is still the possibility that Harrison will follow in his father’s footsteps and want to put a stop to insane serial killers. Dexter could then accompany his son in a similar way to Debra in “Dexter: New Blood” – as a dark spirit that can also bring disaster to Harrison. the So the future of the franchise is still completely open.
“Dexter: New Blood” Season 2: Production
There are currently no official plans for a second season or a Harrison-centric spin-off (yet). But Phillips is always ready to revive the world of his uninvited “dark passengers and tormented killers”.
It’s all in the hands of Showtime. If they called me and said, “We want to do a Harrison series. We want you to come up with something,” I’m sure I’ll be pretty busy, but I’d drop everything and jump right into it. I would definitely like to do the sequel. But it’s really up to Showtime to decide that.
Clyde Phillips interviewed by TVLine
Clyde Phillips would be back on board as executive producer. Phillips worked alongside Scott Reynolds (Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and Michael C. Hall on Dexter: New Blood, who also served as executive producers. For a sequel, the team would certainly come together again to accompany the successful franchise into a next chapter.

“Dexter: New Blood” Season 2: Cast
It is questionable whether Michael C. Hall will then also be seen in front of the camera. After Dexter’s death in “Dexter: New Blood”, he could accompany Harrison as a ghost. In the event of a sequel, it’s safe to assume that Jack Alcott will once again play the role of Harrison Morgan. Julia Jones (“Goliath”) as Police Commissioner Angela Bishop and Johnny Sequoyah (“Believe”) as Audrey Bishop could also be cast, depending on where the storyline would go.
On the other hand, you have to say goodbye to Steve M. Robertson (“Mother/Android”) as Matt Caldwell and Clancy Brown (“Billions”) as Kurt Caldwell, since both characters didn’t survive the series reboot either.
