The round of 16 of the DFB Cup once again caused a few surprises. After advancing against FC Bayern Munich, Saarbrücken also made it into the next round against Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite VfB Stuttgart’s good form, the elimination from BVB caught some people off guard. In addition, the 2nd Bundesliga makes up the majority of the remaining teams. You can see the draw today for free on TV and live stream on ARD.

This is how the draw works

On Sunday evening, two world champions, U-17 coach Christian Wück and assistant coach Jens Nowotny, will take turns drawing teams from a draw. There are no rules, which means a Bundesliga team could face 1. FC Saarbrücken. If a club from the 3rd league or a lower division meets a team from the 2nd Bundesliga or higher, then the “amateur club” has home advantage. Otherwise, the team named first always hosts the game.

These eight teams qualified for the quarterfinals

  • Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga)
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach (Bundesliga)
  • VfB Stuttgart (Bundesliga)
  • 1. FC Kaiserslautern (2nd Bundesliga)
  • Fortuna Düsseldorf (2nd Bundesliga)
  • FC St. Pauli (2nd Bundesliga)
  • Hertha BSC (2nd Bundesliga)
  • 1. FC Saarbrücken (3rd league)
