Bloody riots: Eintracht Frankfurt faces massive punishment

The Bundesliga soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt is threatened with a penalty after the violent riots on the last matchday. This can range from a fine to exclusion from spectators. The German Football Association is launching an investigation.

After the massive riots on the sidelines of the Bundesliga game between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart with more than 200 injuries, the German Football Association has initiated an investigation against the Hessians. The DFB announced this upon request. Eintracht is therefore threatened with a penalty ranging from a fine to exclusion from spectators.

The Bundesliga club strongly condemned the bloody clashes between Frankfurt fans, security forces and the police last Saturday. “The violent action against the stewards and especially against the security employee, which set the entire chain of events in motion, is unacceptable,” it said in a statement on Monday evening. “These attacks should be condemned clearly and unreservedly, as should the violence that was later unleashed against the police.”

At the same time, the club officially apologized to everyone affected. “Our concern is for you and we hope and wish that everyone can recover from their injuries as quickly as possible,” said the responsible Eintracht board member Philipp Reschke. Numerous fans and bystanders were also injured in the massive police operation.

Just a few days ago, the Frankfurt team were fined 30,000 euros by UEFA and banned from the last group game in the Conference League on December 14th against Scottish representatives FC Aberdeen. The reason for this was the events at the game at HJK Helsinki on November 9th, when Eintracht supporters set off pyrotechnics and threw objects.
