SC Freiburg defeated Hamburg 3-1 in the semifinals of the DFB Cup and reached the final for the first time.

Even though Hamburger SV went into the last quarter of an hour in the cup semi-final against SC Freiburg with a deficit of 0:3, the lower-class team from the 2nd Bundesliga left no stone unturned.

Swiss foot involved in the consolation goal

After Anssi Suhonen saw his shot blocked in the 77th minute after a brilliant dribbling, Robert Glatzel scored a deserved consolation goal for the home team shortly before the end after a cross from Swiss Miro Muheim.

Hamburg played well in the first half, creating several chances but lacking in efficiency. The guests from Breisgau, on the other hand, proved to be more accurate: Nils Petersen with a header (11th) and Nicolas Höfler with a long-range shot (17th) gave Freiburg an early lead with a double strike. In the 35th minute Vincenzo Grifo put the lid on it from the penalty spot.

Who follows Freiburg to the Berlin Olympic Stadium?

Freiburg’s first entry into the final is absolutely fine: While Christian Streich’s team was extremely cold-blooded in the first half, the defensive in particular knew how to convince in the second round.

In the cup final on May 21, Freiburg meets either RB Leipzig or Union Berlin. The second semi-final kicks off on Wednesday evening at 8:45 p.m.
