The Apple Watch which will be released next year should be equipped with several new sensors which will increase its “health” role.

Unlike other models, the Apple Watch Series 9 launched at the start of the 2023 school year did not bring any new features to the health sector. Apple’s latest connected watch can thus still display the sensor for measuring blood oxygen, the heart rate monitor and the ECG already present in previous iterations, but no more. Which should not be the case for the 2024 version planned by the Cupertino company.

Apple advances in diabetes detection

A sensor intended to monitor blood sugar levels, a very useful function for diabetics, has been under study for several years now at Apple. And it could finally see the light of day if we are to believe information from Bloombergreported by Android Authority. The Apple Watch Series 10 could indeed benefit from a non-invasive blood glucose level monitoring system.

However, the latter would not be intended for diabetics, but rather for healthy people, in order to detect signs of prediabetes. “ What we are not interested in is health care after illness » justifies one of the sources of Bloomberg. An explanation which could hide another, more pragmatic one. The legal obligations relating to health care are in fact much more drastic, which could make the product less commercially attractive for Apple. And therefore push the company to limit the field of action of said sensor.

Blood pressure, sleep apnea… the Apple Watch will see everything

But if all eyes are obviously on this function, which has been the subject of incessant rumors, the Apple Watch Series 10 should also stand out with other new features dedicated to health. Thus, the connected watch could measure blood pressure and identify certain external causes of hypertension. However, the tool will not have the precision of blood pressure monitors used by health professionals.

Finally, another sensor will analyze the wearer’s breathing during the night in order to diagnose possible sleep apnea. The Apple Watch Series 10 could thus potentially advise people to turn to health services, after examining sleep data. Note that Apple still has time to refine the various functions described, this watch should only be released by the end of 2024, beginning of 2025.
