Diablo 2’s classes and zones haven’t changed for over ten years. In the upcoming patch 2.4 for Diablo 2: Resurrected, however, you can hardly save yourself from innovations. We have summarized the most important changes for you.

Diablo 2: Resurrected has the graphics of the classic beautified significantly, but the mechanics of the game remained exactly the same as in the early 2000s. That’s over now, because patch 2.4 leaves practically no aspect of the game untouched.
Improved class balance, new runewords, and more
It’s been 11 years since the last balance update for the game. Since then, clear favorites have emerged among class specializations as well as farm areas. You can look forward to these changes:
- Major class balance overhaul
- New rune words
- New crafting recipes
- Reworked mercenaries
- New level 85 areas
The philosophy behind the reworked class balance is to to finally give hardly used skills a right to exist. Popular builds like that Hammerdin or the Blizzard Sorceress remain largely untouched and are as strong as ever after the patch. Thanks to the innovations, you finally have a reason to try out other skills, the strength of which can finally keep up with the established skills thanks to the patch.
A similar approach applies to the new level 85 areas. Since you can only find the best items in the game there, you were forced to always visit the same areas in the endgame. So after the patch, you’ll get more variety in that regard, too. You can find out in which areas you can farm best in the current version of the game in our gallery.
The selection of your mercenaries will also become more diverse. Right now, by far the best choice is to hire an Act 2 Mercenary. Because of this, the Slayers in Act 1, the Iron Wolves in Act 3, and the Barbarians in Act 5 are being buffed to finally present an equal option.
From January 25, 2022 you can try out all the new features on the public test server. More details can be found in the patch notes. It is not yet known when the patch will be officially released.
