Defeating demons together is of course more fun than alone and you don’t even have to arrange to meet other players in Diablo 4 online. There is a couch co-op feature that allows two players to play on one console and one TV.

Of course, that sounds tempting at first, because Diablo 3’s couch co-op mode already had many fans. However, there are a few more limitations in Diablo 4 than in the previous game. You must meet the following requirements:

Meet the couch co-op requirements

  • Couch co-op is only available on consoles, not the PC version
  • On PS4/PS5, Player 2 also needs a PS account and a Battle.net account
  • The co-op partner must have completed the Diablo 4 prologue

For example, if you’re playing on PlayStation, Player 2 must also have their own PlayStation account linked to another Battle.net account.

But that’s not all. Player 2 must have completed the game’s prologue to be eligible to join the game. The prologue ends shortly after reaching the location of Kyovashad.

So player 1 can create a new character and complete the prologue with player 2. Player 2 should take the lead here. Then Player 1 can switch back to one of their favorite characters and Player 2 can then finally join.

Start couch co-op

To start couch co-op, first player 1 chooses a character and starts a game. Once there, a message will be displayed at the bottom right that player 2 can join. On PlayStation, for example, all they have to do is press the Options button, choose their own character and then the co-op game can also start.

As you can see, Diablo 4’s couch co-op is a bit cumbersome to set up. After all, only one person needs to own the game. It is best if the game buyer sets up the accounts for a second player before a game session, so both can start right away when they turn on the console.
